The OIG Public Safety Committee oversees the Seattle Police Department and Office of Police Accountability to ensure constitutional, effective, and respectful policing. They conduct audits, investigations, and policy reviews to uphold the goals of the federal Consent Decree. Current priorities include transitioning surveillance technologies, collaboration with SPD on data projects, and ensuring transparency. OIG conducts audits on various SPD operations, including vehicle pursuits and overtime impacts, and partners with the City Auditor on technology reviews. They also engage with the community through initiatives like the SER Panel.
